  1. A search of the forum yielded too many hits.
I could not find it on the tools page (i searched).
I did not see it in the FAQ.

It sounds like an encoder or plugin for TMPEG.

    SO what is it?

    tia.

  2. Ok, I have a guess...

It is the Cinema Craft Encoder?

If that is it, how good is it, and how $$$$$....

IF that is not CCE, then the first question still stands...

  3. It is the CinemaCraft Encoder. Actually, there are 3 versions. The Lite version (around $250), SP ($3800) and the Pro version (no country on earth can afford this one).

The lite version is downloadable as a demo from their webpage (www.cinemacraft.com). The lite version has too little control over the bitrate to be used by most of us for SVCD encoding.

The SP versions's big advantage, besides speed, is the excellent control over the bitrate. It can also have as many passes over the video as you need. Theoretically, this can give better output than the 2 pass that other encoders offer.

I've seen some SVCD's converted from DVD's using CCESP. It was very impressive. However, tests with other sources showed that TMPGEnc was on-par with it.

There have been several debates over TMPGEnc and CCE SP. I personally prefer TMPGEnc, due to it's lower cost (under $100), frequent updates, resizing, built-in filters, etc.

Using a Dazzle DVC2 capture, I've found that TMPGEnc gives better output from an interlaced signal than CCE. If you have a p3 or p4, then you'll see better performance with CCE than if you are using an Athlon or Duron.
