  1. I need some more space on my computer, i find the external hard drives with usb 2.0 connections very smart. Would i be able to rip directly to the external hard drive?. Im thinking usb 2.0 does not operate as fast as an internal drive.

    Thank you.

yes you can rip a dvd from your dvd drive directly to the external hard drive. and usb 2.0 and firewire are both very fast. theres no difference in speed between an external hard drive and an internal one. i would make one suggestion though. if you havent already purchased an external enclosure, look into getting a firewire one, not a usb 2.0 one. do a search on this site and you'll find a lot of people who have had nothing but problems with usb 2.0, and nothing but success on firewire. i am one of those people

Allright, then i would just need a firewire adapter. What about getting a IDE controller for en external ide connection?

  5. Go with firewire matey much easier. I have 2 drives never had any problems. My Maxtors have USB2 functionality also but I have never used them so if firewire does not work for you (which would suprise me) you can always switch to USB2

I have 2 Maxtor 5000DV's which are 200gb however for some reason Maxtor now sell the same model number but they are only 160gb. Excellent drive.

Tell a lie as I have two sometimes I get problems with Windows reading them both at the same time.
