  1. Hi,

I just read the guide: Configuring TMPGEnc for high-quality, DVD-compliant MPEG-2 from DVD-HQ.

It recommends to NOT endode the audio using TMPENGC.

    My questions are:
    1. Does it amke such a big difference in terms of audio or video encoding quality?
    2. If I don ot encode the audio with the video then how do I know the file size I want as output oft he video encoding process so that then I can just add the audio in a DVD authoring tool and get te total size to fit ona DVD?

    Thanks,

  2. 1) With older versions of TmpGenc this was true. Latest versions have a 'high quality' option for audio. Takes a little longer (though not much in the whole scheme of things) but produces mp2 audio quality acceptable to most. This is assuming you want to use Mp2 audio of course. If you want Ac3 or LPCM, use an external encoder.

    2) Use a bitrate calcaulator such as the one here .
Enter the bitrate you intend to encode the audio at (or it already is!) and the movie length. It will tell you what bitrate (average if using VBR) to encode the movie at to fit on the desired media type.

  3. Lately, I've been encoding only the video elementary stream with TMPG. Some of the filters I use can affect audio sync. So, I just save off the wav and convert to one of the audio formats Bugster mentioned above. Then I let my authoring program multiplex them together. That's another option you can think about....
