I am having a strange problem with CCE. I can encode CBR just fine, but for some reason CCE consistently crashes every single time I try to encode 3-pass VBR. No other settings are different.
Any idea at all what could be causing this? I would really appreciate the help, as I have heard VBR allocates bits much better than CBR.
Thanks!

I've exacly the same problem. I'm using Windos XP and Ahtlon at 1.5 Ghz and 256 Micron SDRAM DDR my board is a MSI and this happens both when using FlaskMpeg XIS 4.3 and Dvdx 1.5. I'm using CCE 2.50. together with Premier Video Server Plugin. Anyhelp would be apreciated too. By the way on 2 passes wich one is better TMPG enc or CCE, quality wize. Just in case I don't solve this problem

What are your settings? CCE can not create a program stream, if VBR is selected. Just a guess. -
I've got v2.62 frameserve with flask(not xmpeg) and it locks-up with 3vbr.
setting: q=60, min=1600, max=2600 (svcd setting)
with zipzag??, progressive frames, etc. -
Everyone, does it 'lock up' when trying 3-Pass VBR? Or does it just give an error message like 'CRC Error' or something?
Also does it work with 4-Pass VBR or Higher? Or 2-Pass? -
For me, it doesn't lock up, it just crashes the program with a message like CRC failed or some such. I'll write it down next time.
My settings are q=25, AVG=2100, min=0, max=2600.
Truman, can you tell me what you mean by program stream? If CCE cannot do a program stream (video and audio?) with VBR, then how can I correct for this?
Thanks! -
lol. This is a wellknown problem.
CCE 2.5 crashes if you do vbr with audio.
CCE crashes if you don't do audio on an athlon.
If you're not using CCE's spiffy multipass VBR, it's pointless. -
"CCE 2.5 crashes if you do vbr with audio.
CCE crashes if you don't do audio on an athlon."
huh..those are little confusing there...
CCE 2.5, can be a little tricky, on an Althon based bored, trying to encode with audio is a known bug, try encoding w/o audio.
if frameserving via Avisynth, then you have to include the line "ResampleAudio(44100)" in your .avs file, but yet still dont encode the audio, which is weird. -

yes, CCE does crash if you do a Program Stream (both video/audio combined) using VBR settings (it shouldnt allow you to choose VBR when you are encoding a Program Stream).

I can easily deny this because I always encode with CCE without audio. CCE's audio encoder is poor, so I encode the audio with TMPGEnc (using TooLame).

<<CCE 2.5 crashes if you do vbr with audio.

And what if you have an Athlon and want to do VBR? Are you just plain screwed? I guess not, because others in this therad have said they got it to work.
Has anyone isolated the cause of CCE crashing on Athlon without audio?

Use CCE for video encoding only. For audio I suggest toolame. Multiplex both with bbMPEG.

On Athlons, and probably others as well, cce often crashes if there is no audio loaded into the program at all. So even if you dont have an audio stream if your using something like avisynth you need to add the resample audio line so that it thinks audio is present. But you should then uncheck the audio tab so that it wont actually encode the audio because this can cause problems on some systems.
If you do this you can encode just the video stream. This is preferred anyways since cce's audio encoder isnt very good. -

I know what exactly you mean there. When I frameserve using VirtualDub, and choose No Audio, CCE will crash. If I choose any WAV for the audio (ala a dummy wav) CCE will encode fine (of course I disable the audio encoding portion and encode video only). -
Well I don't think I'm encoding audio. In the Premier Video Server Plugin I choose to creat a WAV file in the end and then convert it and mutiplext it using bbmpeg. So the audio part is not done using CCE. It is just done when the mpv file is created with CCE and when I press stop in the video server. I also see that when I start encoding with CCE eventoght in the server information I can see Audio and Video Present in server connected I only see the video checked. What settings do I have to change so it doesn't crash. What I'm doing rong
Thanks
Hey ! Let's be carefull out there :) -
I know cce is not encoding audio, because frameserve is set to save wav, and the connect?? dialog box only has a check on the video.
I've done 2pass successfully, but my source is crappy and out of sync with muxed.
So I just said "F" it and used cbr.
