Hi guys
in the past ive used DVDShrink to copy dvd's with great success, but after recently formating my HDD i had to download the newer (I think its newer anyway) version!
Since then i get a "Copyright protection" error even with dvd's ive copied in the past? Ive try'd DVDXCOPY in the past but i dont really like it that much as the copy was abit jumpy in places (Perhaps there is a reason for this?).
Again ive heard ppl say dvd decryptor but ive had the same problem with jumpy copies.
any idea's with DVDShrink?

the new dvdshrink wont rip copyrighted material, probably because the developer of dvdshrink works for nero now. just rip the dvd to your hard drive with dvddecrypter or smartripper first. make sure you rip the dvd in file format
-
Not true, the newest version of DVD Shrink does rip copyrighted material, it’s just that on some DVD’s dvddecrypter or smartripper does a better job.
-
Mmm,
dvdshrink, doesn't decrypt and I have found not all DVDs are encrypted, I use ANYDVD that runs in the background, this takes care of CSS encryption, along with RPC-2 and macrovision.
I'dont seem to have a problem using this combination of tools to copy anything, other than somee sountrack problems I,ve listed in this forum. -
I repeat, the newest version of DVD Shrink does rip copyrighted material, it’s just that on some DVD’s dvddecrypter or smartripper do a better job. I would recommend using dvddecrypter or smartripper in file mode to rip the DVD to your hard drive then use DVD Shrink..

I havent been able to get the new version to work yet. I keep getting an error message that says: DVD shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Programming error. What does that mean? I have not been able to get any of the DVD shrinks to work. I used to be able to make the 2.3 version to work but I went back to that today to try copying a movie and at 59% I get an error message on 2.3 that says invalid_pck:nv_vobu_ea. I am about ready to give up on this. Not sure what any of the error messages mean. Would sure appreciate any help.

try uninstalling dvdshrink close down your pc for about 2 mins to make sure that the program is remove fron your system restart your pc reinstall dvd shrink
then trywith the software again
the new version of dvd shrink will rip and compresse any dvd wether copyright protection is on the disc or not
once you have rip+compress to the folder that you create on your hard drive the new version will burn with nero 6 if you have that install on your system
try this
hope that helps -
UTDKING,
I did uninstall DVD Shrink and then reinstalled it. I still got the same error message: DVD shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Programming error. Any other suggestions? I sure would like to get this to work as I really love the program. I have been using DVD Decrypter to copy my dvd's and then shrink the files and it works great. Would just love to do it in one step if possible. Thanks for the help. -
You and hundreds of others. Thing is, what version, what computer & what operating system? XP I bet.
Get the old version of it instead. However, n2000 doesn't have this issue with it.
This copy notice (its actually from NERO. not dvdshrink). It reloads Nero & nero won't copy protected stuff, so just use the old version of shrink. -

you have a error in your dowload off dvd shrink remove that software and download again if you have any antivirus software like firewall or nortons internet secruity disable them any try more than one of the mirror sites to download dvd shrink and install and run the program
also nero will burn files that dvd shrink rips & compresses because copy protection is removed in the rip process -
Hi all.
DVD Shrink does and has always removed copy protection
The "Copyright protection" error is unfortunately caused by the integration of the Nero SDK with DVD Shrink (enabling you to burn DVDs from DVD Shrink).
There are a few things you could try:
- If you do not intend to burn your backups using DVD Shrink, uncheck "Enable burning with Nero" in the "Edit >> Preferences >> Nero or File I/O" menu.
You will still be able to burn your backups with Nero as per usual.
- If you intend to burn using DVD Shrink, one user mentionned that opening and leaving Nero opened before DVD Shrink stopped this problem from occuring.
- You could try playing the DVD for a few seconds with your software player (WinDVD, PowerDVD,...), pause it, then start the DVD Shrink process.
- You could use a region-free software like AnyDVD (recommended), RegionFree, or a new and free one, DVD43.
@ bigjimmpls,
Could you give us some details about your system?
- operating system.
- DVD drive(s) (Pioneer 120 / Teac?).
- RAM.
- Hard-drive(s).
- Backup/burning/authoring softwares installed. -
Hi ddlooping,
Thanks for the reply. I did try redownloading the software as somebody else suggested, but that didnt work. I also unchecked the box for burn with nero and I got the same results. I dont have Win DVD or Power DVD loaded. Seems to me I shouldn't have to have them loaded. I did open it in media player and paused the movie and still got the same results. I have anydvd but is there any reason that should have to be loaded. My opinion is that anydvd is not required. I did load anydvd and then ran dvd shrink and that really slows down the process and got the same message. I guess I am stuck running dvd decrypter and then dvd shrink. I am running xp pro with a lite-on 401-s with 1 gig ram and 2 hard drives. an 80 gig internal and a 120 gig external on a usb. And I am using nero for burning to dvd. Thanks for all the help. -
Sorry bigjimmpls, but if none of the suggestions I made worked then I'm stumped.

ddlooping,
That makes 2 of us. LOL I just want to say thanks. I am ok with using the programs to get the movie, but thought I could cut a step. I just downloaded Win Dvd and will pause it and then try it. But I think the 2 steps with dvd decrypter and then use dvd shrink is an easier step. thanks again ddlooping. It is a learning process for me. -
You're welcome, sorry I couldn't be of more help.
P.S: did you try opening Nero before starting the DVD Shrink process? -
I did try that and it didnt work either. I can't understand how so many people get dvd shrink to work and I can't. I do know that I did have a bad copy of any dvd. I redownloaded it and then got Nero Recode to work with the same movie. And from what I understand that is uses dvd shrink. they look the same. Nero 6.3 recoded and burned to dvd great. LOL So far it is my best copy. And I am using the same movie that I am working with. Oh well so I will keep trying. I guess that I was not destined to use dvd shrink and will use nero for now. Thank you again.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Isnt this so much fun People!! LOL!!!
I concure with ddlooping-I unchecked the Nero box in preferences and it Ripped the dvd (The Who-Kids Are Alright Disc One) and compressed it onto my hardrive using Dvd Shrink! No more Copy Protection message crap! Then, I used 'DVD Decrypter' to then burn that file to a single layered disc... Wala!!! All the menus, 5.1 Audio, Everything!!!! Very nice quality also. In fact you can go into Dvd Shrink and tell it to put it's newly compressed file into the same folder that I use for Dvd Decrypter, neat!!! Mickboy -
since you are familiar with dvdshrink and dvddecrypter, download isoshrink. It makes it as close to a 1 click app as you can get.
