I have a Magnavox MDV630R DVD recorder that I am using to copy old family VHS tapes. An a/b comparison between the DVD recorder and the VCR while copying shows that while the VHS colors are rich and the detail is sharp, the DVD recorder colors are washed out, and in bright scenes whites are super white and background detail frequently shows through foreground detail. If I play a copied DVD in the DVD recorder or in my standalone DVD player (Pioneer DV-440) the picture is just as bad as the a/b comparison picture.
I have updated the firmware to ff12t from a CD Philips sent me - they say this is the latest firmware for this model. This did not correct the problem. Now Philips wants me to box up the unit and send it to factory service.
Does this sound like a problem that factory service can fix or does this sound like a problem endemic to this model of DVD recorder?
Thanks!
