Problems with Instant DVD, how to fix this?

I recently recieved my new computer for x-mas with my first DVD-R drive. It came with Instant DVD, which worked well until just recently. My problem is that sometime I will leave it on at night when I am acking up a DVD, and when I wake up, the computer has restarted, basically toasting my half-finished DVD-R. These puppies are expensive, and I'm low on funds, so every single one counts for me. This has happened multiple times, and I would just like top hear what others have to say about this problem .
