Can a DVD Writer become a recorder

is there a way to turn my computer DVD writer into a recorder for television programs? i know i could capture the video and record but i was wondering if there is software out there that allows a direct recording from the broadcast to the DVD.

NeoDVD claims to do this but I could never get it to work. Check out the free trial anyway. Maybe you'll have better luck.

No tool can capture directly to the dvd. They all store it on the hd and then burns.

I have a WinFast tv2000 deluxe tuner/capture card that has a default templete to do this. requires rw disk and worked in the 1 test that I did. When I ended the cap, it came up with some screens about finalizing disc, etc. but it did work. Was just curious to try. Light on burner was flickering during capture, so assume it was direct.

Actually I think the MyDVD 4 and above will record to DVD while watching.. I have tried it, it works well, but I wouldn't use this method from the computer, way to many other options.

This is exactly what the +vr format is for. I have an Avermedia EZ-DVD Maker PCI that uses the the NeoDVD software. I don't think you can schedule the recording though.
