  1. A new MPEG decoder was installed (nanocosmos MPEG2 video decoder) and now all MPEG2 files are displaying upside down in Windows Media Player (even the MPEG files I've encoded with other encoders before I installed the nanocosmos decoder) but display fine in VirtualDub.

    Ideas?

The new codec must be configured to flip (or not to flip) the picture (or some other filter in the chain is flipping it, and your old mpeg2 decoder flipped it back).
Try to configure the decoder using Control Panel -> Audio & Multimedia -> Hardware -> Vide Codec -> Properties -> (Select codec) Properties -> Settings.

Thanks for the reply, but, I checked that. The decoder itself doesn't appear under the codecs listing there. The kicker is that it displays fine in VirtualDub (and WMP7) but not WMP 6.4. I just started addressing the problem and it's not super critical so I'll just keep at it.

    Thanks again.

mrmungus the card you have come with InterVideo MPEG drivers not nanocosmos and that just an Editor.
It could well be you display drivers or misssing monitor drivers old ver of WMP or it could be some off MPEG codec you have install that the problem.

Funny, I was just looking for this post to update it with the solution (but thanks for your reply).

I couldn't find nanocosmos as a decoder in programs or as a device or as a codec so I decided to uninstall nanocosmos then remove all mentions of it from the registry in hopes that my computer would revert back to the Elecard decoder...and it worked. The nanocosmos stuff is really worthless anyway (the card works just as well without it and all it does is do cuts which I can do with a bunch of other programs, or, not at all if I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to author the DVD).

What's funny is that the MPEGs I created wouldn't even play correctly in the nanocosmos player but would in the PVR-250 interface and, now, play great in WMP.

No, I have the Elecard decoder NOW. It was using the nanocosmos decoder before I fixed it. Or maybe I don't understand how it works.
