Hi,
I want to create widescreen(16:9) DVD movie. I have Studio Pro 1.5 and the mpeg2 movie(864 x 480) in my Mac. I burned the DVD through studio pro and played it on 4:3 regular TV with Sony DVD player and Play Station2. It shows two black borders on the Sony DVD player and it cuts the both sides on the Playstation2. Unfortunately I haven't been able to test it on the HDTV.
First of all since I used "Pan" setting ( I think...) in the Studio Pro I thought when I play on the regular 4:3 TV it would just squeeze it to fit in. Second why would Playstation2 cut the both sides of the movie on the Playstation2 DVD player? I play widescreen DVDs with my Playstation2 and it always adds the black borders. Did I burn it wrong? What am I doing wrong?
If anyone who has created a true widescreen DVD movie with Studio Pro 1.5 could tell me how you did it I would really really appreciate it.
Thanks.

In DVD Studio Pro version 1.5, the software fails (or never intends) to set the anamorphic flag. In this version you'll need to run a little helper app to get the 16:9 flag into your MPEG2 video stream. Download PulldownX and use it to set the flag.
In DVD Studio Pro version 2.*, the software sets the anamorphic flag, although it doesn't seem clear that this is what it's doing.
Make sure your MPEG2 video is 720x480/576, and not the resolution you mentioned before ... unless it is already and thats just the resolution QuickTime reported. -
Hmm... Regarding the movie size, does it mean that first I create the movie in 16:9, then I rerender it to fit it into 740x480 so that when it plays it gets stretched out to fill the screen on 16:9?? Please let me know.
I am wondering, do you think what if I just burn the movie in Toast? Would that work?
I guess I am still confused about the technical explanation. Thanks bunch for your comments. Eazy -
If your MPEG2 video you're trying to import into DVDSP isnt spec, you'll need to fix that, mostly by re-encoding it correctly. My guess is since you've already tried DVDSP1.5 successfully (except for the 16:9 business), your video is ok. Since you're using 1.5 you'll have to run your video stream through PulldownX so that DVDSP1.5 sees the 16:9 flag. Simple as that. For a 2 hour movie, running it through PulldownX should take all of 10 minutes.

Thanks for the tips. It sounds like best bet is to try it again with PulldownX. Many thanks!!
