My X-100 review w/pics

This is a nice looking unit, sleek and stylish. The silver is very complimenting. First thing I notice was the response time of the unit was a little lagging, after pressing the tray eject button it took a few moments to react. Another thing I noticed was the menu, it was exactly the same as my Philips DVD 580MT. I thought, if this player was half as good as my little Philips I would be more than happy. Although the Philips does not play Divx, it plays everything I through at it with superb quality.

The X-100 blew me away. For starters, my Philips is not a progressive scan player while the X-100 is. The quality was top rate even while using interlaced mode, the video looked better than most mid ranged dvd players. Titles like; Finding Nemo, Terminator 2 Extreme DVD, and Episode II looked unbelievable.

Next I proceed to look for any flaw I could find. Everything worked.

Wow, I am very impressed with the quality of divx. I am still a little new to the Divx Codec but I am learning everyday. Every Divx file that I found on the interweb played without a hitch. I used a nifty program called AVIcodev (http://avicodec.duby.info) to find the file parameters. So far I tried 3.11a, 4 and divx5 and they all played fine.

Thanks Homerj. Great show. You didn´t by any chance open the box to see what ESS chip is inside? Does it support Quarter pixel DIVX? Not sure what it is myself but the KISS users lack it.

Did you already try subtitles with DIVX movies?

Perhaps you should contact Hi-Jack from http://mpegplayer.hi-jack.net. He runs a site for DIVX players and would like to test an AVX player.

Quarter pixel DIVX, sorry I don't know what that is.

I could not find any Divx files with subtitles, I'll keep looking. Does anyone know how to use a .sub file with the Video? Do I just burn that file with the .avi, or do I have to run it through a program first?

Please do post your results with .sub files and .srt files. We havent had much time to test them all extensively.

@ZeroSix: I hope you know what your player(s) are capable of. Even the the firmware changes from lconcept should be reported to AV Industries. I´m interested in buying a AVX-600, but I must know for sure that AV Industries can give me the proper support. You should be on top of these things as you sell and support these machines.

But from your website I still get the impression AV Industries doesn't have alle specs from lconcept. Pitty. Please put them there if you get more sure about the specs of the AVX-500 and AVX-600!?

The OSD looks more like a MediaTek chipset than an ESS - probably a variant of the new MT1389 which supports DiVX

For sure... It's hard to get information on the units that havent been released for production. We are hoping to have a few of the X600 in our hands for testing prior to production within the next week or two, and I will provide as much "hands-on" information as possible.

Support for .srt and .sub files is rudimentary at this time, which is why user feedback is important.

As for the OSD, I am working on putting screen shots up on the site of every single menu option. Unf., I am not familiar with the MediaTek chipsets. Maybe someone else can report.

This look VERY similar to the AVX-100 (ESS?)

Can anybody confirm this by getting a screwdriver and open a DVX-100?

But how does an ESS driven DVD player menu looks?

The newer style ESS chipset menus actually aren't too different from the MT1369 types - see Videodrive ES4308 screenshots for the original version of the Sampo DVE612 here

The main difference is in the lettering style.

In fact, the more I compare and contrast, the more likely I think this is actually an ESS chipset we're talking about here (note how the wording on the menus for this player and the DVE612 are centred, whereas on MT chipset players, the wording is left aligned.

However, he giveaway is the word PAUSE - that's true ESS style lettering (see an old-style ESS screenshot, like those on the Uk Encore DV450 here, a clone of the Sampo DVE560, which used the Videodrive ES4408

Only true way to know is to get them there screws off the casing and pop the hood

Vibratto ES6168 is a new one on me, but they did get the DiVX certification around July 2003, and talk about the new Vibratto range in a pdf news brief here - no details about the chip on the website yet, as far as I can see
