  1. I have used Pinnacle S-8 in past and it captured good. Now when I try to capture the timer counter on view screen in Pinnacle will stop, DV camcorder keeps running and when counter on Pinnacle view screen starts again It drops lots of frames. Then all runs ok until counter hangs again and the dropping of lots of frames repeats. I have un-installed and run registery cleaner and re installed, with no improvement. I have installed Ulead movie factory 2 since my previous captures, also a DVD burner. Could these interfere with Pinnacle capture? Thanks Foz

    Hi Foz,

    Try:

    1. Partitioning your hard drive and use the 2nd partition just for video capture.
    2. Defragmenting your hard-drive (before partitioning), and then after for good measure. Defrag even if you don't partition.
    3. What's the spin speed of your hard-drive? The faster the better - 7,200 rpm is the highest (I believe - not looked for a while).
    4. Try different capture software - Check out the "Capture" section under "Tools". DVIO is freeware and seems to get regular mention, there are others.
    5. How are you connecting your DV cam to your PC? It seems that firewire is the most reliable.
    6. Not sure on this one - If my memory serves me correctly, it may have something to do with something called DMA (is that right)? Making sure it's enabled or something?

There's probably other factors, though that's all I know of - Anyone else?

    Good luck...

  3. At this point I have un-installed Ulead.Run check disk, defragged, all hard drives. I have 120GB master, and 200GB slave divided into 2 partitions which are for video capture, editing, encoding, and authoring. Both HD's are 7200 RPM and master has 2MB buffer, slave has 8MB buffer. In device manager both HD's are running ultra DMA mode 5.I have 2.4 GHz processor and 740 MB memory. I'm using IEEE 1394 Belkin card for capture from a JVC DV camcorder. As for as capturing software I have used this Pinnacle before without problem. I have read https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=157660 . Would it be logical to un-install the driver on my IEEE 1394 card and reinstall. I have had my slave drive to go into PIO mode before (for whatever reason), and uninstalling and reinstalling of driver corrected problem. Thanks Foz
