Hi,
Here's my config :
Athlon 1Ghz
384Mb Ram
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440-SE
PCTV Rave
Win XP SP1
I'm trying to capture with AVI_IO at 25fps, resolution 480*576.. it runs 5 seconds or so with dropped frames and then it says "No more I/O buffers available, reduce datarate".
When i try with VirtualDub or iuVCR, no errors but i got a large amount of dropped frames, video can't be watched.
It works only when i set resolution to 354*288 or so at 15 frames per second.
I had this problem before, i fixed it by formatting and reinstalling my system.. but i reinstalled it yesterday and i still got the same problem.
I also posted here : http://www.tv-cards.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=3466 if you wanna check what i already tested or etc.
If someone have an idea..

you really gotta watch out for (and pay attention too) what you are doing
and installing.
Best tip to give you is install a Ghost, and perform an IMAGE of your hd
once you got something working. Northo Ghost, for instance.
Really.. you need to do this after a successful install/debug of something
new.
As far as your issues w/ your avi_io "buffers".. make sure you are NOT
running vdub or any other capturing app in before/during/between/after
messing w/ your tuned avi_io setup. The possibility os contaminating your
given setup is plausable - in your case, definately !! ..hapenning that is.
W/out getting too involved, below is a vdub config steps..
* I would make sure you are setup for either BTYUV or YUY2. set as
...Alt+V+F+ImageFOrmat:[ BTYUV ] or [YUY2]
...ImageDimensions: Cust, and set: [480x480/576] and (OK) button
And, w/out getting too involved here too, below is a avi_io config steps..
* I would make sure you are setup for either BTYUV or YUY2. set as
...Alt+i+r+ImageFOrmat:[ BTYUV ] or [YUY2]
...ImageDimensions: Cust, and set: [480x480/576] and (OK) button
...then, save w/ Alt+F+V and (ENTER) to save these settings.
When you begin your capture, first verifiy that you can capture w/ the given
resolution you intend to use. If you have no issue, then you can finally test
to see if you can capture w/ PREVIEW on. Don't try and capture w/ OVERLAY,
cause it will bomb out. You need to capture w/ PREVIEW on only. Or off..
but not/never w/ OVERLAY on.
The next step to observe is your mobo/cpu/chipset (which is really the first
step) an XP or greater is probably the best setup for frame-less drops.
The slower your cpu, the greater is your chance of "bufers" issues. However,
"buffers" usually come up when you have too few HD space. 2gig is bare
minimum, before you start having "buffers" problems. Sometimes, even at
5gigs, I too might get "buffers" problems. It all depends on where my CPU
% and resources levels are. For instance, if I was busy w/ my PC for most
of the day, I'll hae low resources. In any case, if you are attempting to begin
a capture project, it's recommended that you re-boot your pc and only use
or startup any apps that are associated w/ capturing. Later, do your editing.
EDIT: - - also, in your case, I would re-install (fresh) your capture
card drivers. First, your graphics card, THEN your capture card. Make sure
also, that your sound card is in harmony w/ your cap card. SB Live and those
by Sound Blastid steak CPU/Resources from your PCI bus. This also has
the effect of framedrops or "buffers" problems too. Bare that in mind.
Also, remember that vdub and avi_io are VFW ready only. Not WDM.
That's about it.. good luck,

I've had similar experiences in the past with a PCTV pro card video capturing with AVI_IO on Win98 & a Celeron 900 to my empty capture drive. I would always run out of I/O buffers, unless I did the following...
Made Sure under Video Settings->Source & in the Overlay section that "Use Primary" was selected with "Force Preview" & "Use Overlay" were unchecked.
Also made sure under Video Settings menu again that BOTH Overlay & Preview were unchecked. Yes, you couldn't see what you were capturing on my PCTV pro whilst I was video-capturing,but as my real TV/VCR were next door to the PC,I could see what I was capturing anyway.
Then once I was finished I could always play the AVI files & see anyway. Anytime I forgot about leaving the preview or overlay modes on it'd happen, my guess is it chews up resources.
Hope that fixes things for you!
BTW-with those pinnacle cards, try to allocate it its own IRQ resources, it saves trouble-they work well enough once you get the hang of them! -
Thanks for your answers
I've tried all of that, nothing helped..
I'll try to format my capture disk again.
