  1. That is, either a PCI card that has A/V inputs AND Firewire inputs with an MPEG-2 chip so you can encode directly to MPEG-2 or to DV AVI

    OR

an external unit (like the ADVC-100 or the Hauppauge USB 2.0 device) that have A/V inputs that let you connect to your computer via Firewire or USB 2.0?

There are cards and devices that have either/or but not both...or are there?

TDK indiCAPTURE may be what you want ... AVI/MPEG hardware USB 2.0

Look at Fry's Electronics, conveniently located in Plano, Arlington and Garland/Mesquite for you.

I have not tested it, but keep asking around for others that have. It looks good.

Thanks. Yeah, I got my PVR-250 at the Mesquite Fry's. Returns there are actually easier than at CompUSA (15% restocking fee, ugh).

I don't see a combo device (and the link for the usb instant video is dead, ironically).

But if they exist already it's a moot point. Just wonering why no one combined them. I thought maybe they're separate is because having a unit with both would make them too expensive and people wouldn't buy them as readily as something that's sub-$200 (opting instead to buy one or the other or both if they want both).

All of the links off their main page are giving 500 errors.

Sorry, what I meant was, a device that lets you encode from analog or digital source to DV AVI or MPEG-2.

If there is such a device, do you have a direct link other than the ones that don't work?

    Thanks!
