    Hi,

I'm trying to convert a mpeg-2 file into a dvd compatible file so I can convert that to burn to a dvd. But using TMPEGenc to convert the mpeg-2 into a pal dvd I get out of sync problems. I've tried all the the different audio settings on the first page of the wizard but its the same with all of them. I've never had this problem with avi conversion and this is the first time I've tried converting mpeg-2 can anyone help. I'm using TMPEnc 2.5 Plus if that helps

But is the original mpeg suitable for direct encoding to Pal (25fps). Check the source file in bitrate viewer. If the file is anything other than 25fps you will either have to encode to NTSC or do a proper framerate conversion, which requires extra steps.

No I checked the fps in Virtual Dub first when I got the wav and it was 25fps. I first tried to covert the mpeg-2 file to dvd with out getting the wav with Virtual Dub then tried it with Virtual Dub but the problem was still the same.

  4. In what manner does your mpg file differ from a DVD compliant mpg file?

the mpg file is flawless audio and video in time and very good quality, but the dvd compliant file has same quality etc yet the audio seems to be ahead of the video or vice versa.

  6. Ahem! That wasn't what I asked! Why isn't your existing mpg file DVD compliant? For instance if you used TMPGEnc to do a simple demux and then used IFO Edit to generate the IFO and VOB files will it play on your DVD Player?

Ok sorry, right the mpeg-2 file I have has too high a bitrate apparently, I had a friend capture a concert off MTV3 in Finland for me and he put it on a cd for me to watch on my pc or do whatever more I wanted to do, which is make it into a dvd. If I try and add the file to TMPEnc DVD author it says the bitrate is too high (10000 kbps) instead of 9800 kbps so I tried to encode the file in TMPEnc plus into a compliant file, this is when I get out of sync problems. When I get prompted about the bitrate problem it gives me the chance it ignore it. Will the dvd I make then work or will it depend on the dvd player.

    Thanks for helping

  8. Might be worth trying it by using an old method. Open TMPGEnc Plus and using the mpg utilities do a simple demux so you have two files. Audio and video and if necessary rename the audio to end .mpa

Now open IFO Edit and select "Author New DVD" -- Heck instead of me spending an age typing go to https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/120013.php and you'll find full instructions. At the end you will have a full set of files for a DVD which you can burn to a DVD RW disc and try on your player.

  11. Damn! I thought that would do it. Now I'm at a loss as to how to drop the framerate on an mpg file. I'm about to head for home so I'll think about it this evening and if I can come up with anything I'll post it in the morning.

Open the mpeg in bitrate viewer and cheack the Real bitrate. TmpGenc DVDA only looks at the files header, which only contains the MAX bitrate set by the encoder and this is not necessarily the bitrate used.

If the ACTUAL bitrate (MAX) displayed by bitrate viwer is less than 9800Mbps, ignore the warning in TmpGenc DVDA.

(I am not guaranteeing you won't get sync probs on the DVD though!)
