Version 3.1 had the bug that shutdown the program when you clicked Backup under WindowsME. Version 3.1.1 solved that bug,but the program now shuts down when transcode is complete and you click O.K. to return to the main program window. Version 3.1.2 now has the original bug back again,it shutsdown when you click Backup.
Dr.Shrinks recent announcement that he is stopping further development is probably a good thing,he clearly does not have time to devote to the proper development of DVD Shrink.
His clone known as Nero Recode works perfectly and I have seen no bug reports on it.
DVD Shrink is a good program and we should all thank Dr.Shrink, but I'll return to 3.0 when I use DVD Shrink.

It never fails to amaze me that people have gripes with freeware. These are programs that are hobbies and are designed to provide an alternative to commercially available solutions. Does anyone expect to have completely trouble free operation from freeware ? I personally love DVDShrink and think the creator is a genius. I have trialled CloneDVD and DVD2One and would not pay for them. I also would not complain to the creator of Shrink because I am in debt to him for sharing his hobby.

There's an old saying..."You get what you pay for...". Basically, if you don't like it, don't use it. And if its free, be happy if it works.
    If in doubt, Google it.

IMHO, WindowsMe should not be used for video work - if at all possible consider 2000 or XP (or some would say a MAC or linux but I don't want to start a war).

Yes, given it is not a commercial product and not some big open source monster, the guy is trying the best he can.

  7. Wulf109,

I agree with NYPlayer, Lord Pitufo, AdamRA4, and others about Win ME.
I learned a hard lesson when ME came out, and made a big mistake to install it. Gave me lot of headaches and heartaches. Switch to Win2K, and everything went fine.

That's why Microsoft pulled ME out of the shelf, and doesn't offer it any longer.

    Cheers,

Win ME is the most Evil thing M$ ever released. It's 98 with a pre-W2K IP stack. It's simply an abortion that NO, Zero, Zip , Nada businesses ever used. That tells ya soemthing right there!

98 is being dropped by M$ support next month. No more security updates. That means by March 98 machines will be Internet Worm timebombs. And since there are more 98 machines than XP, it's an effing HUGE issue.

    Upgrade now......

They have extended 98 support until 2006. Announced it a day or two ago.

They need to move away from 98 finally. I love 98SE, I have used it forever. Since I got XP, I would never go back though. XP is great and very stable. I have been using it for about 1.5 years and now that is my expectation of what an OS should be. (I have used almost every OS out there)

Not as of yesterday. But you're right about the worm-bomb thing. I really wish somebody would release a virus/worm that would patch all those broken and exploited 98/XP boxes out there. I know that it would screw up the net for a while, but I think it'd be worth it in the long run. Too many people can't be bothered to update their systems and have no idea how much damage they're causing.

We upgraded about 350 PC's to Me when it came out. once Me is installed and properly tweaked it was a ROCK SOLID operating system for us.

We used it for desktops and laptops with docking stations in multiple locations and roaming profiles. Very fast and solid.
