I'm kinda new to the whole vcd/svcd world so I have some questions about svcd.
I've already converted a few of my movies to vcd and burned them fine and they work fine on my dvd player, even when I test them in Windows Media Player they come out fine. But last night I tried to convert one of my movies to svcd for higher quality. After about ten hours it was done but when I tried to test it in Windows Media Player it tried to search for a codec but couldn't find one, this making it only show audio and no video. Does this mean when I burn it onto a cd I will only get audio and no video? Or is it just because Windows Media Player doesn't support svcd encoding?
The tools I used were TMPGEnc to encode to svcd. I used all the defaults since I'm not too sure what I needed to check off.

VCD is mpeg-1. Decoder comes free with WIndows.
SVCD is mpeg-2. Decoder not included in windows.
Solution. Install an mpeg-2 decoder.
How, download and install the trial version of PowerDvd (XP). This will install an mpeg-2 codec that should still function after the trial period has expired.
If your DVD player will play SVCD, then you will get Video as well as audio. -
Don't install Powerdvd and waste your space. Get and install K-lite codec pack. It has most of the codecs you'll need doing converting. You have to manually choose which MPEG2 decoder you want to install, LIGOS or ELECARD. Try Ligos and if there are problems with the playback of SVCD's then uninstall and reinstall with ELECARD.
