I'm doing video captures on some old videotapes, and have run into a problem with TMPGEnc (verified that problem is in the mpeg, not my DVD player). These particular programs have a *VERY* short gap (about one frame) between the commercial before the program starts, and the program itself. The problem is, I end up losing the first bit of the opening theme. Normally, I wouldn't care about that (probably wouldn't even notice), but in this case, about two words are clipped, and it's very obvious.
(Editing my own post....)
I almost forgot to mention that the capture is MJPEG---every frame is a key frame...so that's not (or shouldn't be, unless there's something I haven't learned yet that would apply here) part of the problem.
Does anyone know why it might be doing that, and how I can stop it? If I knew how to insert a couple of empty frames at the beginning (in VirtualDub), it'd be a non-issue---I could just do that every time. Sadly, however, I haven't been able to find a way to do that, short of keeping a clip around with about four blank frames, and then appending the video I want to work with.
Is there a better solution that I've missed?
Thanks,
--jim
PS: In some cases, the same bit was clipped on the broadcast---so it's not going to be perfect for each episode either way...but still....... :-)

Can I assume, then, that nobody else has ever seen this?
Btw, it's also clipping the last few frames at the end.....
If anyone has seen this, or has any idea *WHY* this is happening (and thus, can help me fix it), please let me know.
Thanks,

Sorry, I should have been more specific.... I'm using PicVideo MJPEG for the captures.
If there's a Windows binary for the open source MJPEG, I haven't seen it on the sourceforge page before (and my FreeBSD machine doesn't have any video capture ability).
Thanks anyways, though.
