dvd ==> divx for playstation 2

i recently got a new computer whith a dvd-rom drive and a cd rw drive. i was wondering if it is possible to convert a dvd into a divx file that is playable on my ps2 or a stand alone dvd player. i have already converted the dvd into divx but i need to split it into 2 files and put it onto cds. does anyone know how this is done. help would be greatly appreciated

The best splitter i knoe of is TMPGenc MPEG tools, but it only converts MPEG (as a last resort you can convert to mpeg then split and convert to divx but quality quality will take a small hit and its long winded) check in the tools section for something called AVI splitter i think Zealot make it. BTW if you want o play divx on the PS2 make sure you have the reality media player. For more info chekc on the PS2 page under the dvd player section on this site.

cheers, it says on this site that the ps2 can play divx files. what is reality media player is it an add on for the ps2?

i assume ur talking about a modded ps2???? there arre plenty of divx and xvid apps that will convert dvd to avi and automatically fit them to 2cd's which u might considder using in future

Reality Media Player is a piece of software that allows your PS2 to play divx. You can find it here. I can't offer much more info than that seeing how I've never tried this myself, nor do I own a PS2.

As for splitting your divx file, use Virtualdub. Open your file, click on Mark In at the begining, and mark out at the mid-point. Select Direct Stream Copy on the Video menu and Save As AVI under File. Repeat for second half.

I think the DMS3 mod chip for the ps2 allows divx play back.
