  1. I have got a 12 gig mpeg file on my PC that I am wanting to split/chop/cut into 5 different mpeg video's without any loss of quality and without the need to re-encode each individual file. The resolution is 352*576 at 25fps and Mpeg2 quality. There are five films contained within this 12 gig file and about 15-30 minutes "space" in between each film. My question is which software can I use successfully to cut this file into five pieces. I can afford to lose a certain amount of frames either side of each cut. TMPGenc will not open a file of this size and I have tried various other programs without much success. If somebody could give me an idea as to which software to use and how to cut the file it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

It will take a bit of manipulation, but try Virtualdub-MPEG2. This will save them as AVIs though. It will accept HUGE files (I have had 8GB files in there before). Set Video and Audio to Direct Stream copy and select your range for each file. You can use the batch mode also so you can set up all the points where you want it to cut and let it run as a batch overnight. Do you need them as MPEGs in the finish ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. Try Womble. Works well.

  4. I've tried to use Womble previously without much success, but maybe i'm doing something wrong. Can anyone give me any idea on how to use it properly? Thanks for the reply Jim, I dont need to save them as mpegs necessarily because I can just use TMPGenc to re-convert it back into a file for writing to DVD.

Thanks for the quick replies and any more ideas will be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance
