  1. I have a TDK CDRW disc that came with my burner and have been using for for a year and a half, burning maybe 30MB of files daily as abackup to stuff not yet archived. It has always worked well, well recently InCD has been having issues with it, it says the disc is "READ ONLY" and its formatted and written on. It happens repeatedly. I even went and formatted it(complete not fast format) and it still has these issues.

I reinstalled incd and again its happening. I know CDRW discs have a limit but is maybe 400-550 writes it? Not a big deal but I want to know if I am gonna have trouble with the drive itself or just the disc wearing out.

  2. I add, I just formatted a new Memorex CDRW disc and it works like a dream. Its just the old TDK it seems.

CDRW are supposed to be rewritable up to 1,000 times. The operative words here are "up to". Most CDRW will probably not make it to 1,000 times. I had some Princo CDRW that barely made it to 10 times and are now completely useless.

I suspect you will find the same with DVD RW regardless of flavor that you use..

  5. I think its dvdrw thats meant to rewrite 1000 times, cdrw are meant to be 100000, i think its just age and constant use, no cdrw will make it to even 1000 times. THere so cheap now anyway, its not worth worrying over.

Wow!!! That's the first CDRW I've seen worn out! Congratulations

    Drop a $1 and get a new one :P

Probably the heat from inside the drive killed it more than the actual burns.
