On many dvd's there is a vob at the beginning with a couple of mpeg still pictures (FBI warning, "the comments of these people are not our opinion, yadda yadda") - anybody know of a program that can generate such a vob? (from still pictures bmp/jpg etc)

I know that you can create still picture MPEGS for use as menus when you author a DVD. I think you do this in TMPGEnc. The still displays for as long as the audio track goes for. Using this method, you could create a blank Wav for say 20 seconds and make a still picture file. Then Integrate this using TMPGEnc DVD Author and voila.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Yeah, tmpgenc can generate a picture (one picture) to an mpeg, but its not a vob and there is no ifo - i suppose it might be possible with dvdauthor, but it seems a bit of a kludgy way of doing it.

Update: No i don't think its really possible, because it will insist on adding buttons to the files.

I don't know of any software that outputs directly to VOB so I think you may have to create the MPEG then author. TMPGEnc DVD Author creates the IFO and BUP for you and you can set the first play item to this so you won't need a menu or anything etc.
    If in doubt, Google it.
