Hi guys,
Ok well, this will likely be the third product, so I want to make sure the third time is a charm. I've had both an ATI TV Wonder, and then the Pyro A/V link and both have created their own set of nightmares...so I want to be absolutely, positively, without and beyond a doubt that the next one I get WORKS!
The pyro in this case completely stops capturing when even the slightest variance in the video signal is there, and then picks up again about 30 frames later...rendering the capture useless. I can deal with 1 or 2 frames dropped but not 30+. (it takes too long to recover)![]()
It appears everywhere on this forum I go people have nothing bad to say about the Canopus ADVC 100...I want to buy one of these...but before I do...could someone PROVE to me that this does work?
If one of you have this unit, could you do a test for me....
Find the absolute worst video tape you can possibly find, and capture a few seconds with your Canopus...I want to see for myself what it does. This will determine if I get one or not. My tapes aren't all in terrible shape, but giving it this kind of test will give me an idea what to expect if it gets less than a perfect signal. (a cartoon is preferred as this is primarily what I am doing) Please use just a regular plain jane VCR, nothing fancy or with TBC's, as I do not have one of these.
I have alot of VHS tapes that have been edited (using flying erase) that I want to convert and I want to know if the Canopus can handle the slight glitch in video signal when the edits take place. They look clean on a TV, but the Pyro hated this and I took it back, as this rendered the product useless for my needs.
I'd consider the ADVC-300 but I can't find anyone who has it, and the price tag is just getting too high.
If you do not want to post the URL or want to email it to me directly please contact me privately.
Thanks in advance.![]()

I don't really have time to "prove" anything but rest assured: I had a Pyro and dropped 30+ frames at a time just like you. I captured a crappy 10 year old tape that had been taped on over and over for years. The Pyro dropped hundreds of frames a minute, the Canopus dropped 0 in a 35 minute capture! 'Nuf said...

Hi Coluph,
I can't give you the proof (to the letter) that you seem to be looking for. And,
this is not "practicle" to use as a guage for your comparison because there
are just too many variable, mostly:
* your source tape, and condition its in
* your vcr and it's condition, brand, features, age, warn etc etc
* device etc.
Given the above (and then some) all these you would be comparing up against your own vs. ours, hence no match for 100% accuracy.
Here is an perfect example. ..a VHS ws version of SW that I encoded as a
test clip for someone in another thread. But, the unique part of this all, is
that this tape is used. Undred's of times over, and on many different vcrs.
I just happen to find a last copy and am willing to put up w/ the degraded
quality (as a result of the above, and then some) for my own person reasons,
gratification and enjoyment :P though not of cartoon source.
Good luck,
VHELP's Samples..
Cheers,
