  1. I hope that this post is in the right place?!

I'm sorry if this post seems to go one forever as well..

I'm very new to this so please be gentle! I'm trying to capture VHS - DVD. I’ve recently purchased an MSI DVD +/- R/RW (8x recording DVD speed) model No. DR8-A & with the pre-bundled software was – MyDVD version 4.5.2

The software says that it can capture directly from VCR & copy it to DVDr, or copy to HD & than onto DVDr.

I have a Hauppage WinTv PCI card which I’ve been successful in connecting my analogue VCR to. Everytime I try to Capture my video using this product, using the ‘Direct-to-DVD’ wizard, I type in the name of my project, select Record to DVD’ & press next. The program scans the DVD writer & recognises the media I’m using (either DVD-/+R), it brings up the dialog box as it scans the DVD drive. The program than seems to hang. I than go through the same steps, but select to record to Hard drive, I again get the same problem.

This also happens when I choose the option ‘Create or Modify a DVD-video project. When I click on the capture icon, or use ‘File – Capture’ the program just hangs. The only way I can get the program to respond is by going into Windows task manager & select ‘End Task’.

I’ve updated my capture cards drivers, to the most current version. Uninstalled & reinstalled MyDVD many times, defragmented my hard drive & also turned off any other software that s operating (my firewall & virus software). But nothing seems to work.

I've also tried to use VirtualDub but it doesn't seem to want to work (same problem, program seems to hang, when I go into capture mode). But I can seem to capture video ok using WinTV's own capture software, but the amount of dropped frames is horrendous! I reckon well over 50%! I've read in some posts that virtualDub sometimes doesn't work well with XP. Can anyone suggest another good program I could use or where I'm going wrong?

My computer specs are as follows:

    Athlon 1.4Ghz processor
    768mb RAM
    Windows XP Pro
    120gb hard drive
Hauppage WinTV PCI card (BT878 Chipset)
Nvida Geforce 4 440MX 64mb TV out AGP graphics card

    Many thanks
Don't you just love it when a plan comes together! :)

  2. I'm fairly new to this too. But have also had problems with MYDVD. It came bundled with my VideOH media PCI capture card. The program was very unstable. I switch over to WinDVD Creator Platinum 2 which captures great with my card no lost frames.
have XP, 1Gz PIII and 256MB Ram.

  3. MyDVD is NOT good software as many will testify. May I suggest that you download Ulead Movie Factory trial version and give it a try. It should work with the Haupagge capture card and it's a good prog to use for both capturing and authoring. I use it with an ATI Radeon PCI card and get very good results.
