  1. Hi all,

I have searched the forum for my problem, but couldn't find anything similar nor any solution. Could someone help me please?
My parents recently bought a stand-alone DVD player. It is only now I realized the difference in quality comparing to my PC-DVD player.
I am not saying a stand-alone player has better quality, but than again maybe it does...
Let me explain myself: I have a GForceMX4 and I use the TV-Out to see my DVD's on my TV. For the playback I use PowerDVD. Now, when I watch the movie I can see that in the darker parts of the film, bright black spots can be noticed very clearly. They even seem to move a little... I know this might sound strange but this is very anoying.
When the brightness of the movie is very clear, the playback has the same quality as on the stand-alone player.
Ok, I hope i made myself a little clear, because I don't really know how to explain this
To solve the problem I thought about changing the resolution (1024x768 to 800x600) , color depth (32 to 16), but it didn't help either...
Than I thought the problem could be my TV-screen, but my PC-screen has the same black spots during darker parts in the movie...which aren't there when watching on a stand-alone player.
This problem occurs on normal DVD's as well on my copied movies...

I really don't know what to do anymore...
Does anyone has a suggestion or a solution?

    Thank you all in advance!

  2. Its probably the way the mpeg is being decoded by PowerDvd. A different playback software or something that allows you to make adjustments to colur/brightness/contrast within the playback SW would help.

Take a look at the Home Cinema PC forum at http://www.avforums.com/ for help.

  3. Thx for the reply Bugster.

i solved the problem on a rather expensive way :P
I just bought the same stand-alone DVD player as my parents today...
Amazing how much difference in quality though, comparing a PC-DVD player to a stand-alone player. Last one has none of the problems I tried to explain above...

    anyway, thx for the help

Strange. Im a user of PowerDVD also and have never experienced any problems using it.

you dont state what version of powerdvd you're using, but you could try downloading the latest patches and updates from the cyberlink website. thats what i do every time there is a problem with software, usually solves the problem.
