Incompatible Media? [NEC ND-1300A DVD+-R(W)]

Hey there,

I have the burner listed in the topic and I have a small problem. I ordered a sampler pack of DVD-R 4x media that came with 10 disks, 2 each of 5 different brands. I tried Ritek, and Prodisk with success. However Optodisk, DupEZ and Princo don't seem to work. Is there a driver update or something that increases compatability with other brands of media? I've looked everywhere I can think of with no luck. I found a list of "recommended media", and those brands were not listed, however that doesn't mean they WON'T work...help?

well, you've got at least 2 brands to work with for now. IMHO, matching media brands to specific burners is still close to black art.

as to improving your burner's compatability with other media brands, would suggest you visit your burner mfgr's website support page and look for any firmware revisions they might have. Some of the big media mail order outlets (americal, meritline, etc.) may also have links for same in their web pages.

use caution with burner firmware upgrades, tho. They are usually irreversable so getting exactly the correct version for your model and following the upgrade instructions to the letter is important. Don't think you want a trashed burner.

Yeah, I do like those Ritek disks anyway...Guess I can just stuff these others in a drawer in case I need them some day. Thanks.

The latest firmware update from NEC (1.09) will cope with a lot more discs.

Don't expect miracles. Crap media is Crap media. Zero problems using RITEK's so far (same for TDK's, but I got standalone player issues with those).
