Just tried burning my first DVD in Pinnacle Studio 8. Captured a 115 minute movie from my TV using Canopus ADVC 100. Went to Create Disc in software and had to compress to 40% quality to fit onto 1 DVD+R. That equated to about 3,200 bitrate. Used AC3 sound because did not want to chance the disc not playing in a set-top using MPEG audio.
Does that seem like a high compression/low bitrate for just under 2 hours?

That may seem a little low, but if you're not happy with it, I would suggest, since your source is TV, you may want to consider using 1/2 resolution so that you can up the bitrate, keeping the file the same size. You may end up with better picture quality since 1/2 resolution is actually closer to TV resolution than full DVD resolution.

When you say 1/2 resolution, is that something I accomplish through my capture process? I am capturing using Scenalyzer and not sure if that is a setting.

I am not sure if PS8 supports 1/2D1.
BTW: How do you make AC3 sound in PS8 ?Pinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home)
