  1. What is the approach to store video on a hard drive and watch on a TV.?

I am thinking of using a DIVX (MPEG4) codec, but what resolutions should I consider if I want to view it on a TV? I have an AIW card and when I look at MPEG2 encoded at 720X480 , a lot is off the screen....

Should I record a movie at 640X480 or ?? Also is there a better card than the All in Wonder to convert video to a TV?

    thanks,
    Jack

    You're doing something wrong.

All files at tv size will playback if marked 4:3 aspect. Use DVD player software, WinDVD or PowerDVD.

Very few cards are better than an ATI AIW in terms of output and input.

ATI MMC 8.8 can do MPEG-4 and has some presets to use.

  3. Thanks for the response...

Actually, I believe it may be the AIW card. When I view a DIVX file on the main display (computer monitor), it looks fine. When I switch to a secondary display (TV via the video out on the AIW), I have to scroll using the mouse to see the whole screen.

This occurs when I am viewing a web page (or anything else) and viewing video on my TV from the AIW. The AIW documentation seems to indicate that this will occur, but does not say it specifically. Could my configuration of the AIW secondary monitor (TV) be wrong? I have one of the original AIW Radeon Cards

  4. You need to either adjust the screen resolution on the PC to one the TV can properly display or resize the displayed image using MMC.

Configure and test this just using the desktop, your problem does not concern video, at least not primarily.

You should also look up OVERSCAN, though this is a seperate issue.
