Back from CDRW drive days LG has a bad reputation on their optical drives according to some stores and people I know...could this may happen to their dvd burners? My friend told me to stick to Lite-on and sit and wait with my pioneer. We may not see the problem now if you have problems in the future please post.

Hi kamuixtv,
Now I am a bit confused here. You did advise here that the thread owner should go in for an LG DVD burner.
Has your opinion changed since then? If so, please do post.
Thanks.*** My computer can beat me at chess, but is no match when it comes to kick-boxing. *** -

I can tell you that the LG seems to have better "initial" quality in that the disc draw seems more sturdy than the Lite-On and it's more quiet. Can't comment on long term reliability on either drive yet.
So far I burned about 10 DVD-R with no coasters. -
All 3 of my cd burner are LG one is 2+ yeras old and still works perfect. So I belive that quality is great. The orignal disk I burned when I bought my first cd still work's.

Honestly, in computers, I don't think we can judge a company by any products they have made in the past...reliable or not. Technology changes so fast and companies change their components, suppliers and manufacturing facilities so frequently that it's hard to predict the reliabilty of an one product much less a line of products from a company.
Take HP for example, some will say that their computers are very reliable while other will say they SUCK. Who do you believe? Same can be said of any company with any product.
I guess what I'm getting at is that if you like something you see today (in terms of features, and no complaints of initial quality), just buy it. By the time you wait for a particular product to prove it's long term reliability, it's outdated technology! Then a new model comes with new features and new questions regarding it's long term reliability. That being the case, you'll never buy anything...ever!
Just my 2 cents. -

Recently, I bought LG 4020 and using DVD-RW discs burning at 1x, so far so good that I may try DVD-R soon.Sam Ontario -

LG = Top quality
I use only LG CDRW & LG DVD roms in all the systems I build. (± 120 to date)
Have owned all their CD Writers from the 8160b to the current 8525b (excluding the 8320 32x) top build quality.
Solid, well made units, ultra quiet, with one of the best & quietest tray mechanisms I have come across.
Currently I own 3x 4040b Writers
Not one failure in all the above builds to date. -
Now that i think of it I had one problem with my LG 32X CDR burner. One day it just stopped working. So I shut down my PC in the back so i had no power at all. I went out and bought a cheep MAD DOG 52X burner. The next day I turn the power back on from the back on the PC boot up and LG was working like new haveno clue why it stop burning.
The only small problem I have no is I can not burn at 32X alot. I think IC8 and Nero do not like each other make ASPI driver's messed up. So I burn at 16X some time's it fail at 16X but the CDR is fine just stick the CDr back in and hit burn again.
My LG is working fine now most of the problem are not happening and I did not do any thing to my system.
Alot of people would say the LG burn would be bad, butI know IC8 and Nero just have problem and do not like each other.
The only reason I keep IC8 I love it for full DVD back up's.
I would buy another LG ina heart beat if this one broke.
