  1. Hi,

I have just recently had a new LiteON LDW401S DVD+RW writer. I am currently experimenting with writing to DVD+R and DVD+RW.

I have hit a problem which I am hoping for some advice on. I have been able to burn to a DVD+RW (unbranded came with the drive) and have it play on my Schneider DVD-857 DVD player no problem (as do most things I throw at it - never had a problem before).

But when I burn to a DVD+R (unbranded again came with the drive) using the same method and the same files and try to play on my Schneider player it fails to load the disk and displays 'No Disc'.

I know that players / writers can be media sensitive so I have purchased some Ritek Branded (Grade A over prints) DVD+R. Tried again and no luck despite burning using various different pieces of software (Nero 6, DVD X Copy, Intervideo DVD Copy). All playing fine when played on the PC writer.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Why does DVD+RW read no problem and DVD+R not? Is it down to the media? I am reluctant to keep wasting my DVD+R's if this is the result! (I have enough coasters). This is a real problem as I want to put a lot of home movies on to DVD+R.

    Thanks.

Your situation sounds similar to mine. I can burn +RW disks that will play in the standalone DVD player but not +R disks. The +R disks will play on the computer also.
-R Disks work fine in the stand alone DVD player.

    PV-D4742 Panasonic DVD/VCR combo player.

Two possible choices, buy a new DVD player or try -R disks.

[Edit] You might look for a firmware upgrade for the Lite On. I am also checking Panasonic to see if the standalone can be upgraded.

  3. I am pretty sure my drive won't write to DVD-R disks so that idea is out of the window unfortunately.

My Liteon drive firmware is of the latest version.

  4. is your schneider player still in warranty ? From what i've read, they are supposed to be compatable with +r disks.

might be time for a unit swap with the dealer/mfgr.... or at least take your "coaster' disks into a store that carries that player and ck to see if one of their demo units will play your burned disks.

you honestly need to try a media sampler pack, some players are extremely picky about the media they will play Try more expensive media like Verbatem or Memorex this may make a difference, example: My player will play +r of verbatim, memorex, tdk, no problem but I recently bought some Ritek media and my player wasn't so happy with them they would freeze and skip and all kinds of crazy shit, so I took the chance and bought some Optodisc Inkjet printables ( work with My epson R300 for direct dvd Printing) and they play fine, so now I have found a cheaper media that I can use and I am happy but I did waste $100+ for media everyone else says is fine but won't work on my player.

  7. Hi, I have also a lite-on 401 player and have the same prob somehow on my mustek dvd player . The dvd+r disc that came with the burner, had some hickups on my player.. Then I copied that dvd+r to the dvd+rw disc that came with the player ( dvdx platinum ) en it played perfectly without hickups...... ( the dvd was originally authored via tmpg dvd author )...

I tried other burning proggy's like, Pinnacle Studio 8 , which su(xx)s bigtime. And also tried nero .... Those dvd won't even start on my player ( using dvd+r discs )..... I have tried BASF emtec dvd+R discs but they don't work very well... Any one who can help me ?

I'm going to try ulead dvd movie factory 2

    Regards
