  1. Hi
I have a avi file DivX that i want to convert to a MPEG2 SVCD file.
The original file have a audio synchro problem. I would like to know if i should try to correct this problem before converting it, after or it does't really matter ?

    Thanks for your advice ...

Look at it this way: It will take a lot less time to fix the Divx than it will to encode a bad one and end up with a bad mpeg as well. Definitely fix the avi first.

  3. Check the divx for bad frames and if any found, delete them.

  4. So it is as easy to correct a sync problem in a Divx File than it is to correct it in a mpeg file ?

No, it's less hard in AVI format than in mpeg. It's still a PITA, rarely worth the trouble...

To me, it's a matter of how I want to spend my time. I don't find several hours of tinkering with an AVI worth while, if it's not a very rare and exclusive specimen I'm working with.

  8. When the synchro problem make a video unwatchable. It's worth to me to correct the problem.
I thnik it's long for the computer to process it but to me to prepare it it's not that much effort.
I saw that there is a few guide to correct these sync problems. Do you guys recommand one specially ?

It depends on what kind of sync problem you have.

If, for example, the audio is constantly shifted a few milliseconds or seconds ahead or after the video, it's really easy to fix it with VirtualDUB. You just have to experiment with different values for audio delay until preview shows you with proper sync. Then you re-write a new AVI using direct stream copy which is quite fast.

If you have captured an AVI and have dropped frames here and there, audio is much harder to synchronize and it has to be made manually for sections of the video.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  10. I did not remove frame from this video
and the audio is out of sync from the video (the sound is about few ms after the video) so is there any guide that you would suggest to a newbie like me ?

  11. I just read a guide to correct sync problem but the problem is that i need a tool to help me to calculate exactly how milisecond the audio is off the video. So i need a tools that show me both the audio and the video so i can write down the difference and THEN i would be able to resample the file to fix the problem.

Does anyone know a tools that would help me do that ?

It doesn't fix it. You'll have to use an audio editor for that.
