Just got a Pioneer 106 from Father Christmas.

Got Clone DVD, Clone DVD version 2.2 Trial, AnyDVD, DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, Nero 6.

All the software works fine ... up to burning. Starts to burn and then after 2% it aborts.

I've tried burning a DVD-9 to DVD-5 using Decrypter and Shrink ...following the tutorials to the letter .... another coaster!!

Used CloneDVD 2.2 to do a straight copy ... original disc 4.12gb ..another coaster

What can the problem be m8s

Any help .... suggestions ....point me to a tuorial I haven't got ( I think I've got 'em all).
    It's doing me 'ead in

    Pioneer works fine as a reader .... but won't burn ... even cd-r's !!

when you are burning, make sure to close down all programs that you dont need. all virus programs, internet connections, etc must be closed or you will get errors while burning.

are you getting any error messages, or does it just freeze up?

  3. does the final "coaster" instances play OK in your dvd player? If so, it could still be bad media, bad burn, bad conversion, OR incompatibility with your standalone dvd player.

Barring that, how did you set up your system? Are the master/slave settings correct. Have you tried to do a DATA burn. Does that work correctly?

That's funny I don't shut anything down and I have zero problems. AVG running, Trillian Running, M$ Word Running, IE open and browsing, MS Outlook open and running all while buring CDR's and DVD's although I haven't tried burning a CDR and a DVD at the same time

BTW. I am also using the same drive. I would try some different media. Something that is known to be good.

well sometimes you dont have to close everything down, just depends on your computer. but if you start having burning problems, shutting down other programs is the first place to start. especially antivirus programs, because on my computer, it would try to scan the dvd as it was being made and screwed up the disc.

  6. Make sure that the 106 runs in DMA mode. It should also be the master drive on the IDE channel. Check that with Nero Info tool. It reports the DMA setting but fails if you have Intel Application Accelerator installed. Then you will have to check in IAA.

  7. I forgot - you have installed too much burning programs that might not like each other. That could also be part of you problems. Uninstall whatever you don't need for your immediate needs.

The DVD writer is set as slave ... cos the DVD-ROM it replaced was set as slave. My Yamaha CD writer is set as master. Can they both be set as master ?

I was also thinking about the DMA .... but it should be OK ... I was able to burn onto the old DVD-ROM.

While there is ( a lot ) of software ..... it only fires up when I enable it ...they don't autostart .... and I also use EndItAll to close alll running programs.

I'm sure its a setting somewhere rather than a faulty player .... perhaps in BIOS.

Thanks for your help ( and to other people who replied ! )

That "may" be "the" issue. Depending on your uses now (not going to burn cd's anymore or less frequently), you might want to remove the cd burner all together (you can burn cd's with the dvd burner).

The burner needs to be set as the master and the dvd rom/cd burner set as the slave.

No, you cannot (should not) have two masters set up on the same IDE channel. The best you could do is a cable select option, but you are trying to fix your burning problem, not add to it.

I'll be that if you switch the dvd burner to master and the dvd rom to slave AND defrag your hard drive you should see your problems go away.

  10. What kind of computer??
    What operating system?
    What media?

Also as mentioned above you got too much software on the machine, they can easy conflict depending on what computer you have.

The DVD burner is on the same IDE as the HDDisk .... HDD set as master and DVD as slave. Yamaha writer is on separate IDE set as master.

Are you suggesting swapping IDE leads so that I have DVD as master ( after moving the pin selector) and put the Yamaha as slave (also with pin changes) on the same IDE as HDD ?

    OS is XP

    I really appreciate your advice.

  12. here is the way I have my set up:

    40 gig (C) drive master
    20 gig cap/convert/etc. drive slave

    DVD-R master
    DVDrom slave

All of my burns occur from the 20 gig drive that is dedicated for this (although I have done burns from the c a few times and my usb2 40 gig drive all with no problems).

I would say at the very least put the dvd burner as the master on its own IDE channel (basically swap the cd burner with the dvd burner).

Permission to shout HURRAH in a very loud voice.

Swapped the burners over .... result DVD burned successfully

Odd thing is .... PC doesn't recognise it as a DVD ..... standalone player plays it fine ..... what's this all about.

Many, many thanks for your advice and help.
