Hi I'm trying to encode a divx (downloaded in parts from Kazaa but I've tried fixing it with Divfix) using TMPGEnc. Basically even though the source is 68 minutes it creates a file ranging from 4-6 hours depending on the paramaters with the remaining time filled with blackness.

I've tried to edit out the black with TMPGEnc DVD author prior to burning however the resulting disc is unreadable in all dvd players I've tried. The additional tracks on the disc works fine so I suspect it has to be the rogue track itself and not the disc or machines.

Does anybody have any suggestion on how to correct this with either TMPGenc or TMPGEnc or another encoder and/or author program in order to get a workable disc?

I'm using version 1.5.11.37 of TMPGEnc DVD Author and 2.58.44.152 of TMPGEnc with a core of 1.90.140.

    Thanks for any info

  2. does the file in question play fine when you play it in a divx player or in windows media player? When you load it into TMPGENC and do a search through the video (an example would be to do a cut), do you see video or the same black video?

I havent done an avi in a long time, but was thinking you may want to you virtual dub to frameserve the file to tmpgenc. that may do the trick. Please provide more details.

Yep - the file works fine in Media Player and other computer players @ the usual 68 minutes. The blackness only shows up when TMPGEnc comes into play. Not sure how to cut or search using TMPGEnc converter however the blackness is there in the TMPG DVD Author. That's where I cut it as all the blackness shows up after the video ends.

I'm just downloading VirtualDub right now. It's been awhile - is there anything special I need to know about frameserve'ing or is as simple as point and click?

    Thanks for the reply.

  5. ZIPPYP mentioned a definite possibility, bad frames. download divfix and run it through there "first" to see if everything is OK.

for TMPGENC. load up the avi and in the setting option, click source range and then you can fiddle with it (or after you load it go to file and then preview).

Thanks again for the info guys. I did try the source range and preview. I can see all the blackness in preview however cannot find anyway to modify things.

Bad frames do make sense. I just hope when I do the virtual dub thing the audio won't be out of sync.

I'll do a full read through ZippyP's links and give a report back either way.

    Thanks again!
