  1. Okay. I've been downloading movies and converting them to VCD(MPEG1) or SVCD (MPEG2) with TMPGEnc 12a. I usually preview them once they are converted with Windows media player 7.1 with no problems. I downloaded the DivX 4.0 codecs a while back so they are in my system. I just finished doing a conversion from an .avi file to .mpeg with TMP. I used 2 pass variable with a standard SVCD template. When I previewed the converted file in WMP7.1 I got only the file name showing up on the screen and audio only. I tried running it again and noticed at the bottom it said "searching for codec". I have never had this problem before. All of my conversions have worked in the past with WMP7.1
I also tried to cut the file with TMP to put it onto 2 discs, but when I went to edit (cut) it, the play "bar" was already at the end of the file. I pressed the play button and nothing happened. I tried to move the "bar" to the beginning of the file, but it wouldn't move.

In a fit of frustration I thought to try to re encode 1 minite of the source file again (with a standard SVCD template) to test it. same thing happened in WMP7.1 and in TMP cut mode.
Tried a different movie file all together. ENcoded the first few seconds of it with a standard SVCD template and tried to play it in WMP7.1 and cut it with TMP. same things happened, nothing.

I have not altered my system in any way. I haven't downloaded any new files or installed any new programs.
I tried downloading WMP7.1 again and the DivX 4.0 codecs and nothing works.
What the hell happened? I ran my antivirus and it came up with nothing. Now I can't seem to preview any converted .avi files to mpeg in WMP7.1 ( I get the file name on the WMP7.1 screen and audio only) or cut any of these files in TMPGEnc.
The only thing that seems curious is WMP7.1 is "Searching for codec" which has never happened before. Even so, how would this affect TMPGEnc?
    Help meeeeeeee! Please!

  2. WMP can't play SVCD. You need a software DVD player for those.

  3. shiZZZoN-
Software dvd players will only work if the svcd is standard. If its a non stnadard svcd, use Elecard, but REMEMBER, once you burn it to cd, you CANNOT play it back on cpu if its non standard svcd

  4. ok, i have been having the same problem...If you find out how to fix this or if anyone has an answer please post. it starts like this, the movie is divx/avi format, and the encoder is tmpgenc. i start to convert the movie to mpg per the convert instructions. once movie has changed to mpg, wind media player does not recognize(searching for codecs)the video, just audio. the standard-temp- i picked was ntsc 29fps. any help would be great. i have burned it with easy cd 5plat. and the dvd player just skips past 3 of 5 short trials burned to the cd. help!!!thanks for the help

  5. I have seen some threads in the past that sum my issue up as a codec problem. come to think of it, the trial version of WinDVD that I D/L had expired on the same day. I think it my be safe to assume two things. One, when I uninstalled WinDVD it took the MPEG2 codec with it. Having said that I can only assume that TMPGEnc uses the same codec and thats why I could not cue up the .mpg file to cut it for burning. This certainly explains why WMP7.1 wouldn't play the video, as it was an SVCD, which can only be played if WMP7.1 has the mpeg2 codec installed.

Am I on the right track?
