  1. Too many holidays deals to pass up on, so I've now got a LiteOn LVD-2002 DVD (Divx) player, and a Pioneer A06 on order to retrofit into my G4/800.

I'm wondering what my best media options are? Does one match the media primarily to the player or the recorder? (ie. what blanks to buy) Can anyone recommend a particular brand to use?

Which type of DVD+/-RW (blah blah blah) mode (R, R/W, +. -) is most likely to be compatible with most DVD video players (in general)?

The video thing is not SO important to me, I was simply tired of 700M for backups... 4.7G is gonna be much much nicer.

Would happily accept links to FAQs where these questions might be answered (newbie FAQ?)

    Thanks,
    Mike

sine you have a A06 the choice is yours for - or +.
media brands .... TDK is what i would go for. you will pay for them though... usually around $3 a disk (what apple charges for thiers mind you!) and they are really solid medias

galactica is right about that one. You get what you pay for is my beleif. TDK, Apple and Poineer blanks are the best choices for paying customers. For just my own backups, I use DVDPro from supermediastore.com. They are heavy duty and seam to burn everytime in my 17" superdrive when some of the other cheapies didn't. Good Luck

dvdpros are decent for quick burn and read jobs

but burn a dvd to them and access the data a year or so later... and you will most likely have read errors or skips on your dvd player

thus the fact that $'s do dictate good media

I swear buy imation. imation has never let me down on CD-R or DVD-R and Apple tech support recommended them to me after I couldn't get Memorex to read let alone burn in my CD-R Drive.
Verbatim and TDK are excllent also.

  7. Thanks for all of the media tips. I've also been an Imation CDR media fan, tho I dd have one fail the other day afer several months of non-use (hmph).

Any guidelines on *if* I should have any preference of + vs. -, etc. Are the R/W's worth it?

    Thanks,
    Mike

rw's are nice because of the fact they are rw's and you can use them over again.

make sure you get a really good brand though because cheap ones over time they loose their ability to hold data

per + vs - you will go insane trying to find out if one is truly better.
i say stick with what your computer supports

if its both then by all means knock yourself out and try both and pick one!
