  1. I've got a number of ripped DVDs converted to AVI's w/ Dr. Divx. I'd like to make an AVI file from a JPEG of the DVD cover, then join the movie to it - the objective is to show a thumbnail that is recognizable for kids who can't read the title yet.

The AVI files seem to have a variety of sizes and either a 29.97 or 23.976 framerate. I can't quite figure out how to make a AVI that matches the size and framerate from the JPEG. Any ideas? Will the AVIs also need to have the same bitrate, and if so any ideas on how to make all these match?

Make an audio file the length of the AVI to make. With TMPGEnc, load the JPEG under Video source and the audio file for Audio source.

Click File->Output to file->AVI file. Double click the very narrow vertical grey bar (has a black dot at the bottom) just right of the Video codec display window. A window will popup where you can choose a codec.

I believe Dr Divx uses the Dvix5 codec. There you can choose the frame rate and resolution to match the AVI to Join with.

Click save and you have an AVI.

    Hope this helps
