It's a complete piece of crap. The DRU-510A blows the 530A out of the water. I've used many burners and the DRU-510A is the best one..with the Pioneer 106D coming in second.
But the DRU-530A is heavily flawed. The thing has serious issues with disk to disk copies like I mentioned the first day I tried it on another post. The drive will either do one of two things...burn @1x on a disk to disk copy..or COMPLETELY FREEZE AND LOCK UP. What a joke of a drive. Oh, not to mention, I just found out that the few disks I did burn with the DRU-530A will NOT read in my LITE-ON DVD-ROM! LMAO...they do read in my burners...but that's ridiculous.
All the other burners i've used burn media which can be read in my DVD-ROM but the DRU-530A's burns CAN'T. Oh, and not to mention it's designed and its parts are completely shitty. It's gonna be funny reading all the negative posts on this piece of garbage drive. Sony really screwed this up..even though they did OEM it.......you'd still expect a DECENT drive...but this drive is a complete DISASTER. -
I find it interesting that even though the 530A was released before Xmas, there is still not one review on it in the DVD Writers section-only the current comments from Defense in this forum.

It is just a OEM of a Oporite drive and Sony disabled some of the best features that made the original worth owning. Supposedly it also won't burn any + media faster then rated speed so it's not as good as other drives like the 708, 811, Optorite and others that can. At least if that's true and I believe it is. I have a 500a becuase it was the first dual format and if I was spending the kind of money to get a dvd burner I wanted media choices for price and hardware compatibility. It's been a good drive except for being exteremely media picky. It will burn most media very well, just wont burn it faster then 2x
So now they release one they don't even build and cripple it even worse then the original 500 and charge twice what you can buy the real Optorite version for.
That's why we are down on it. If they decide to fix some of the limitations it might be a great drive.
I ended up with a LiteOn 811 becuase it was cheap and with firmware updates it keeps getting better and more added features too.
I don't know that it's complete crap but it doesn't appear to be built as well as the 2 true Sony drive before it.
