question on nero and sony U-14A

Could someone help me on following question or similar case:
i use shirnk to compress a dvd down to 4.7GB and it's good inside pc but when I burn it by Nero 6.0.3x then simulation failed! The error log says a bunch of things but near the end I see a "write error" blah blah...
- is it possible of incorrect hardware setting? (spindown, idle, DMA...)
- what driver nero should have (i installed many other copy software after nero, they may well took away nero's driver...)
- or something else that you sometimes see in your Sony?

has the burner ever worked ?, video only ?, does data work ?

yes, i burn lots of times even dvd but sometimes it doesn't work ... I think
