Dv transfer to pc

I have transferred my dv footage to my pc no problem using firewire

All well and good because the footage was a continous length but now i have a 60 min tape but the footage is not continous many breaks when i stopped filming.

Will I have 1 avi or will i get multiple smaller avi's and if smaller avi's how do i join them ?

It depends what software you are using for the transfer. But here's how i do it. Use WinDV. And change the Discontinuity Threshold to 0 seconds, and the max AVI size to 1000000. This tells the software to ignore breaks in the video, and to transfer it all as 1 file.
