I bought an ATI 9600 pro with 256MB...but I bought it without knowing much. I wasnt sure if this was a good purchase or not, I just knew that at the time ATI was better, and I wanted something with DX9. I am a gamer, so I dont care about much other than how it will help me to play games.
Other stuff in the tower: AMD XP 2100
Epox Gforce 2 motherboard
256 Ram
and some other stuff...

The 256mb vs 128mb will make in short...no difference. I've seen where the 256mb can be ahead by 1-3 fps, I've seen the 128mb ahead by 1-3 fps and I've seen them mostly tie for the same FPS.
But as far as the card model...great choice.
Most people pick a non-pro or SE and are screwed royal. 9600 Pro is the best combination of performance and value between all models from ATI and Nvidia.
