coverted Mpeg longer then original AVI???

i need some help here
im trying to convert a AVI file with:
512x384
29.970fps
DivX 5.0.5
ive been folowing

exept im using TMPG Enc Plus 2.59 using 2passVBR
and i ticked NTSC to PAL (wanted to use PAL)
but when it finishes encoding the SVCD file is longer then the original AVI
was 40+mins changed to 50+mins
the video and audio is prolonged like they r talking in slow motion
i didnt have any problems with files that were:
23.976fps

is this because im converting to PAL???
would it be better for me to convert to NTSC???
some1 please help
i want to get these files converted quickly cause ill be off to holiday soon

Since your movie is 29.97 I would stick with NTSC. I haven't had any problems with converting 23.976 to PAL 25fps but down from 29 didn't work too well. As for the time change that happens and I would worry more about the quality and playback rather than the minutes.
