  1. I use DVD Decrypter to rip my DVD to my HD. The whole movie (file mode). I then compress using DVD2ONE (in full disk mode). Then burn with nero. This works for me about 99% of the time. However, there is the 1 % that when compressed are just lets say about 200mb-400mb to big to fit (ie: Nero wont burn it). My thinking was to take out the files that would take up space but not really be needed like, traliers for other movies. When I do this Nero gives me a new message saying that the resulting dvd my not play. Can someone please tell me if you can or can't take out files? Or point me in the right direction to read! Sorry if im double posting this! Thanks

  2. Not too sure about DVD2ONE, however I have always used DVDShrink and taken just the movie out (no menu's or extra's etc..) this way I get minimum compression on the actual movie (which is all that matters) and excellent output quality.

In full disk mode do delete some audio streams? DVD2ONE like all transcoders has limit to it's compression. Some DVD's are so large thay are beyond it's range. Usually deleteing all audio streams except the first will bring it inti range. Try using movie mode. DVD2ONE has the largest compression range of any transcoder so changing to DVD Shring won't help, you have to delete audio streams.

When you end up with a rip/shrink that comes out a bit too large for a DVD-+R, take the resulting "Too Large" set of files and run them through Shrink or DVD2One for a second round off compression. It actually does work perfectly well. I've had to do that when I author a home-shot video and the authored compilation turns out a bit too large or when Shrink miscalculates and you end up will a final rip that is 100 -200 Megabites too large. Rather than re-rip the whole thing again I just run it through the prog again and reduce it an additional 5-10%. I know I could re rip but I've had a few DVDs that DVD Shrink could not bring down to 4.38 Gigs without cuttin out extras. Of course when that happens, you should realy consider hacking off the extras anyway.
    Just a suggestion.

  5. Thanks! With all the great info you guys gave I found a soulution that worked for me. I do agree though its best to really consider those extra features! Are they worth the compression loss. The disc I posted about when recompressed a second time as mentioned above, looked less like a dvdd and more like a svcd. Thanks again

I usually turn a dual layer DVD disc into 2 DVD-R backup discs when there are alot of extras along with the movie on the original dual layer DVD disc.

DVD-R Disc 1 is movie backup only DVD2ONE
DVD-R Disc 2 is the whole thing with the main movie set to "still images" using DVDShrink. This way I get all the extras and the menu for navigating it all.

Usually the extras back-up disc needs no compression once you apply "sitll images" to the main movie. Also remove all audio and subtitle streams from the main movie.

With some movies even the main movie can be done without compression (or very little) when you stip out everything but one audio track and one subtitle track (if needed).

However the days of single disc dual layer DVD discs with the movie and extras seems to be comming to and end. It seems as though a lot of recent mega-blockbuster movies are doing 2-disc editions with the first disc taking up almost the entire dual layer DVD just for the movie and sometimes an extra or two and then the second disc is often times a single layer extras only DVD disc.

Some recent titles like this ... THE HULK, MATRIX RELOADED, X-2 XMEN 2 and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN which I'm backing up now (disc 1) so I don't know if Disc 2 is single or dual layer yet as I haven't gotten that far.
