I am looking for a good deal on DVD-rs (now that BestBuy ended their sale on Memorex) I saw CompUSA brand 1x dvd-rs for $44.99 They are manufactured by FMI. I am assuming these will burn at 2x using Nero (I had some 1x Fuji which did this). Are these a good, reliable brand or are they cheap generic crap? I want something reliable as I want to make some home movies for my dad. I have a Pioneer DVR-106. Thanks

  2. I have used about 300 of them without a single bad discs. They play on all three players I have at home and on all my family members players. they are 1x however my Sony DRU-500ax burner burns them at 2x while my Pioneer 105 won't. I suggest you buy the ten pack for like $6.99 to try them out.

They are Princo if they are the same as the CompUSA -R discs I got.
They burn at 1x on my Pioneer 104 and 2x on my Lite-On 411s.
No problems at all with them.

Compusa DVD-R media is PRINCO. I've burned them with my Plextor 708A burner without any problems. Although I've read on other forum sites that supposedly PRINCO dvd media doesn't work after a year. I don't know how true that is. I like using them because it's cheap and they play on my standalone dvd players as well as my friends and family. They are 1x speed but burn at 2x on my Plextor.

If you're near a Office Depot they have the VERBATIM DVD-R 15 pack on sale for $29.83 buy one get one free. I purchased them yesterday & they're 1-2x speed. On DVD INFO PRO it was listed as RITEKG03.

What color was the bottom part of the package on your Verbatim? BEcause I hear that the Grey bottom Datalife plus for +R are Ricoh, and the Black bottom -r are CMC. Also the black bottom +Rs are suppose to be Mitsubishi Chemicals.

Given that I have no personally verfied this I'd like to know what color the bottom of your spindel is to either break or add to the list.

Back on subject however most Compusa disc are princo, they may seem to work well but beware. Just do a forum search and see.

I've been buying other dvd media besides those Compusa DVD-R. So far I've used from PC CLUB their generic dvd-r that is RITEK 4x, IMATION (RICOH) DVD+R 4x that burns 8x and from MWAVE.COM DVD+RW RITEK 4x. Only problems I had was using Memorex DVD+R and I returned them after burning a coaster. They were made by CMC.

Thats usually just as bad if not worse in most cases.

So far the lesson on the verbatims seems to be that grey bottoms are good, black bad.
