  1. Can I transfer VHS to HD, put chapters wherever I want them, then record to DVD? [/b]

  2. It's possible, but not as easy as that.

You will need to learn all about capturing, interlacing, telecining (and inverse telecining), and it would help if you learned something about video filters too. Also, look into VBR encoding and learn all about that.

You will need to get software tools that do the following:

    1. capture
    2. edit
    3. encode
    4. DVD author
    5. DVD burn

If you want only freeware tools, then try these out:

VirtualDub, AVIsynth, TMPGenc (trial version), ImgTool. There are probably many others to check out too. Read the guides.

  3. But I'm talking about standalone recorders! I thought I didn't have to specify by posting in the "DVD Recorders" forum.

  4. Hi,

It might help if you identified which DVD Recorder your using as there are differences between manufacturers and models.

Yes, depending upon whatever machine you might have, or might get. I wrote a detailed guide about how to go about this on a Panasonic DMR-E80H, here:

Go through that, and you should have a much better understanding of how this works.

    Good luck!
