Does ANYONE know ANYTHING about these problems?

    1) DVDShrink will not open my Philips created DVD+R's. Has anyone come up with a work-around for this?

    2) TMPGEnc DVD Author WILL open the Philips discs....but for some reason it is taking FOREVER to create the necessary files after adding chapters - naming the chapters...etc etc....up to 2 hours in fact. I know how this program works...so far I LOVE it and intend to buy it after the 30 day trial is up. I have successfully done several projects with DVD Author so far with normal store bought DVD but CANT get it to work with the Philips discs....it almost seems like it is re-encoding something....but TMPGEnc DVD Author does not re-encode according to their website.
    P.S. Yes....the discs are finalised.

    Thanks if you can help.

what was the error message? BTW why do you want shrink to open unencrypted dvd5 discs?? anyway try using v2.3 of Shrink...it is less "sensitive" to vob files than 3.0b5. once you run it thru 2.3, 3.0b5 will open them. good luck.

It's a Windows error message for the DVDShrink problem....but it's in German and my German is NOT very good....beside the point....DVDShrink will not open these discs. I am running Shrink 2.3.
I want to place chapters in this disc...it's a one hour long concert and I want the individual songs as chapters now.

Have you tried ripping all the files to you HD (Windows copy or DVDDecrypter) and then using Shrink to open them?

  5. i know what to do ok.... i had the same problem

    1. Rip the dvd in in IFO mode. Rip it to your hard disk, do each recording to a separate folder
    2. open IFOEdit, open the IFO in it from one of your folders, Go to VOB Extra's, Create New IFO's.
    3. when the window comes up, make sure the destination directory is in that folder. click ok. it will create new IFO's
    4.Open dvd shrink.
5.Open files ----> choose the IFO in the folder you have just created with the new IFO's

  9. movie freak - well done for discovering that and getting started on doing a guide. Looking forward to that. Maybe you can add in how to use IFO Edit to change the aspect ratio as well - the DVDR70 will record your 16:9 output from your digibox and then give it back to you at 4:3. Just a thought...

hech54 - I was also totally stumped by the DVDShrink problem so I went on to using TMPGE DVD Author. I haven't had any problems with that. The time it takes to get the stuff off the DVD+RW and onto my hard disk is about equivalent to ripping speed. The authoring can take a while, but I've never had it take 2 hours - normally less than 30 mins.

Maybe I'll compare both methods next time I've got a film with adverts to edit out...

    Cheers,
    Alan

    To: MovieFreak, hech54

    Hi together,

I had the same problem with discs (both +R AND +RW) recorded in a Philips DVDR 880.

I'm going the same way as Movie Freak (creating new IFO's with IfoEdit), and it works.

I think I found out the reason for the problem: Maybe DVDShrink has a problem with a) the menu the Philips created at the disc and/or b) the file structure at the disc. At the DVD recorded by the Philips I found not the normal folders Audio_ts and Video_ts, there are a folder named "Video_rm" instead the Audio_ts.

  12. Well guys/girls,
I have the same problem with recode 2 from Nero. It hangs when I try to open a Video-Ts folder that was created with the Philips DVDR75.
With disks that I created fully with TMPGenc and DVD-it, I don't have any problem whatsoever.
I can copy disks that I made with TMPGenc and DVD-it to the harddisk by just using the copy command in windows, but I cannot do this with the disks created with the Philips DVDR75. The only way that I can copy these disks is by using an Image-copy. Then they work fine on any player, but still have the problem with recode 2. So there must be something different on the Philips disks. The only thing I noticed is that the VOB-files on the Philipsdisks are smaller than 1 gigabyte; in my case mostly about 855mb. Do any one have an answer for this phenomena?

  13. I don't know if you tried this but it works for me. When I open a dvd I made on my Sanui set top dvd recorder inTMPGEnc DVD Author I put a check in the box Copy the clip video data to the HDD and uncheck Reading chapter information it only takes a a few minutes to copy to the hard-drive then I can add my chapters and menus as normal. Forgot to add it will save the dvd as a mpeg file.
