  1. My problem: DVD+RW discs recorded on my new GoVideo R6530 DVD+RW set-top recorder freeze up my PC when I try to access them in Explorer.

This is when I just try to *look* at the contents. It happens both on Windows ME and XP machines, and with both the OEM disc and with a TDK of my own. As soon as I click on the DVD drive icon, the PC goes dead -- no keyboard, no mouse, no chance of a warm reboot.

Also, neither Nero or Prassi can reformat these DVD+RWs -- they just spit 'em out with errors.

The discs themselves are not corrupt. The TDK, at least, had PC content on it before being erased to record video.

Anyone else have a similar experience? And is there anything I can do to copy files from these DVDs to my PC?

(The unit does perform its primary function -- recording TV shows -- satrisfactorily, I should add.)

I don't understand why you would want to use DVDShrink on a DVD recordable since you don't have to compress or transcode it to fit on to a single DVD since it comes from a single DVD.

I've had trouble ripping them too sometimes. Usually works in IFO STREAM PROCESSING mode for me (that would be using DVD DECRYPTER).

    Why?

    because you are that cheap?

stream processing mode creates a M2V file for the VIDEO and an AC-3 file for the AUDIO so that won't work (to the best of my knowledge) with DVDShrink.

One has to do what one has to do to catch up to TGPO although I doubt that will ever happen hehehe

BTW don't be "dense" and use your head. Author the ripped M2V and AC-3 then use DVDShrink on that although that is a horrible way of doing compression on already compressed captures JUST to fit more stuff on a DVD but hey whatever it's your eyesight.

Despite the fact that you only have very few posts under your belt you HAVE been registered here for a long time now.

I cannot imagine you don't know the answer to this and if you really don't ... it's just plain sad.

    Look here if you must:

I'll say good luck since you apparently need it badly!

The reason he is trying to use DVDShrink is:
To use the "Start - End" function to edit out the commercials...then have DVDShrink re-author it for him. GOOD idea on paper....it's a shame that DVDShrink hates discs created in set-top recorders.
Are YOU that dense that you can't figure out what he is trying to do? You sure give us people from Pittsburgh a bad name quite often here don't you?

  16. When I made my first dvd with my Sansui -RW I formated the disk in VR mode and finalized it when done but my pc would not read it. Then I reformated the dvd in Video mode and made the dvd. My computer read the dvd with no problem. I don't know if this is your problem but it's something to check.
