I will be wanting to replace my 2-3 yr old Toshiba 1600 with new player that will play dvd-r/-rw, and dvd+r/+rw as well but not totally necessary, but it must also be able to play (S)VCD, and MP3.

I've been reading the comments about various models, but I've been seeing pros and cons for just about every model. I want a player that will last beyond a yr or two, and with digital tvs coming more and more into the picture, it looks like progressive scan will be needed as well.

Manufacturers I am considering are Sony, Panasonic, JVC, Pioneer, and Toshiba. The player should also be able to play DVDs I create on a Pioneer A06 writer.

Any input would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks!

  2. I think Toshiba and Samsung have new models with DVI out. That is something you might want to look at for future technology upgrades.

Also, most all players now support mp3, and all the writable format discs. Not all play svcd but more are coming out that do.

Use the DVD Player search on the left column to search for players/reviews/compatability.

I am in the US. One model in particular I am considering is the Sony 425P. Haven't been able to find many comments on this player. It seems to do most everything I want it to, but most comments on Sony players in general seem to indicate a short life span.

Does anyone have this player and wish to comment.

    TIA

  4. solution: X-box,modded up to its eyeballs, remote control,Xbox media center.
play games, and movies/music on all formats, including divx, etc, and really good picture quality and sound as well.
gone are the days of overpriced and overrated brand named dvd players,i.eony,pioneer,panasonic,etc.
companies like them should take a lesson on doing more for less,or in reality doing something for the money rather than spending cash on just there little badges on players.
