I know this drive is fairly popular and works well, so I bought it today. The first problem (of only 1, I hope) is that I can't get it to read some of my old CDR's with some information I need to restore. I just says insert a disc in drive F: The cd that came with the drive, as well as an audio CD works fine, but none of the CD's I've burned (audio or data) seem to work at all.

Does anyone else have this problem or know what I might be able to do to resolve it?

I have an AMD XP2100 processor on a MSI KT4V MB.
I only have the one drive installed (3 other hard drives on my IDE's).
I don't rip or copy DVD's just write home movies of our family.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

  2. what firmware version do you have? I have v1.07 for mine and seems to work for my old media. It is a slow drive for initially recognizing media, do you just sit and let it go, or do you try to click on the cd-rom icon right away?

I have 1.06. Their firmware checker said it was fine, but I dl'd 1.07 anyway. I haven't installed it yet. I'm just hesitant to install it from all the warnings about screwin' up the drive.

I waited for quite awhile. The other media recognized fine, just not the burned CD's I made. Some were older, but I tried some newer burns and they didn't work either.

I'll try the firmware upgrade first. Thanks.
