  1. I want to do the following:

    1. Demultiplex a VOB to elementary streams so I get a MPV and a AC3 file.

    2. convert a WAV file into AC3 and replace the original AC3 with it.

    3. author a DVD and get the videofile to play with the new AC3 file i created.

I've done all this but when i play the authored DVD there's no sound.

I'm using DVD-lab to Demultiplex the file, Ffmpeggui to convert from WAV to AC3, and DVD-lab to author the DVD. I can't use any other authoring software than DVD-lab, as it is the only software that reads my VOB files, all other authoring software has refused.

I'm very new to this, any ideas of what I could be doing wrong that causes the sound to not work?

There are (free) programs specifically for ripping and demuxing DVD *.vobs, such as SmartRipper, DVD2AVI, VOBrator, and VOBedit, to name a few. While DVD-Lab does accept *.vobs the manner it demuxes is designed for its own authoring engine and may or may not produce valid standalone *.ac3 files (or *.m2v, for that matter). As for encoding *.wav to *.ac3, try BeSweet also. On acquiring the *.ac3 file it pays to test first to see if it sounds OK before submitting to the DVD-authoring program. To do this there should be an ac3 dll in your system which automatically gets installed along with a DVD-player program (such as PowerDVD, etc.), or by installing dedicated filters (and associating with, say, Windows media player) that can be found on the tools>audio encoder section of this site.
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

  5. Chances are that your AC3 file does NOT comply to the DolbyDigital standard...

Try SonicFoundry's (Sony) SoftEncode or Vegas4 to do your DD Certified AC3 Encoding...

Also, do a bit of reading at Dolby's WebSite...
