  2. First the basics. Make sure your original AVI file had sound (yes, I know. But you'd be surprised). After you converted to mpeg was there sound? I know these are just basics, but they'll go a long way in helping others solve your problem....

Test the avi with Gspot and make sure you have the codec. If it's ac3 extract to wav with Goldwave and use that as the audio source

  5. i have this problem too. i read the codec and it's a AC3 DVM and i've extracted the sound with virtual dub as u did and tried that as the audio source but it won't work ( i extracted it as a3 and wav format ). when i use tmpgenc to make the movie it would take 2-4 minutes before the file would start encoding. it would just freeze up. what i'm trying to do is add subtitles that i got from the web. this is the only movie that would freeze up for 2-4 before encoding. after it's done, the sound would start for the first second then stop immediately. does anyone know how come it's taking so long for me to encode it??

  6. I think with ac3 5 channel u need to use headache to convert your audio file you created with virtual dub to .wav then you use that newly created file as your audio source. As for the subs,Im not sure about that.i had 1 movie that was ac3 that I couldnt get to work after using virtual dub and headache so i guess it could be the file too. Good Luck.

As pointed out, if you extract AC3 with Vdub you get an AC3 file with a .wav extension, you need to change the extension to .AC3 and convert it to wav with Headac3he.

Having said that, I do all my wav extraction with Goldwave, just load in the avi then save. It handles most sound types including VBR-MP3 and AC3.

  8. just download the AC-3 ACM Decompressor by fccHandler from

    http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/AC3ACM/index.html

and you would be able to open ac3 files with TMPGEnc

    cheers
